News From the Pit
By Eddy Metal

Louder Than Life and such....

Greetings, chums! My broke down, weary tater just recently got back from vacation and, boy, was it a good one! It was like a roller coaster ride traveling from the ghetto to fantasyland. From almost getting into a fistfight with a mouthy homeless pos in New Orleans (whom apparently didn't like being ignored. I will help real people in need! But not people this young lazy drug-addled turd), to touring a WW2 Battleship in Mobile (that shot down 22 Jap Zeros and sailed into Tokyo Bay for the surrender), riding one of the last steamboat paddlewheel boats in America (the Natchez! the other is the Belle!), my GF almost yakked in the New Orleans Voodoo Museum, or by almost drowning in Gulf Shores when my GF and I almost got sucked into the bay in a very strong current (It grabbed my big ass and pulled me out like a rag doll. I was literally hanging onto a rock by my fingertips!), my vacations are usually pretty eventful. The eight-day stay in a nice condo in Gulf Shores was the real highlight, though. Swimming in the ocean everyday and watching the dolphins swim by every morning at 8 a.m., like clockwork, was neat. Such a quiet, super clean, lovely place — Gulf Shores. I recommend it if you need some serious peace and relaxation. And, boy, did I ever.

Oh, well, enough of the relaxation. Back to the grind! Time to get out and see more shows, time to get out and PLAY more shows (I got three shows booked, one is in Lexington), and time to concentrate on making my music better than ever before. Both bands! Plus, no matter what's going on in my life, I'm always down for some Louder Than Life, and my GF loves it, too. We had a blast last year. Hell, every year! I'm kinda excited to see Alice In Chains, Slash, Suicidal Tendencies, Tremoni, FFDP, Body Count, Billy Idol, Deftones, The Sword and Seether. Like I've said, once you've seen so many bands, over and over, shit kinda gets old, so the chance to see some kickin' new stuff makes it even all the more better! I can't wait. I'm going to take a vacation day from work for it.

I suggest you do the same! Because chances are, you're feet are going to be destroyed after LTL, especially if you are taking pics, going from stage to stage, like I am. OMG. It's crazy. The things I've seen. The sights I've seen. I should write a book.

The photo pit is like an open all-out MMA brawl-a-thon. May the best man win! Or woman!

I just got back from the Paddock Pub to see local rockers Boombox Poets in action, and, I must say, Louie The Local Guy has that place doing pretty well. I love being able to walk 100 feet to see some live music! And I always see a bunch of friends when I go over there. So, good job, Louie! I also hear that Louie is engaged to be married to Stephanie Lanham, a very sweet lady who I think is Louie's coolest GF yet! Congrats to those two. I wish you the best.

Pardon my interruption, you wouldn't believe what just happened. I was sitting here writing this, and I hear a huge metallic crunch outside. I run outside and a car has hit the house across the street, hard. Two young punks jump out and run off. The family that lives in that house has several kids who always play exactly where the car hit. It was a freaking miracle no one was killed. About 10 police cars come, and helicopters, scouring the neighborhood for these pieces of shit. Oh, and they even ran over some poor lady's dog she was walking. The police ended up catching one of them, but he wouldn't tell who the other thief was. That kid is in serious trouble now! Stealing a car, reckless driving, killing a dog, running from accident, damages, day-um he is screwed. These kids looked to be about 17 or 18 years old. What is the world coming to? Yes, I was a wild kid way back in the day, but never in my darkest moments would I have done anything even remotely similar to these young hooligans. I was a wild MF, but I didn't get into a lot of trouble (I was too smooth), nor was I a risk taker. And I was respectful to elders.

Anyways I hope that little bastard gets nailed for almost killing those sweet kids across the street, and for killing that lady's dog. Total props to the police for the super fast response.

Well, that's it for me this month, peeps. It's been one long month. A roller coaster ride from hell, that was mostly awesome.

Ya know what would be even more awesome?

I'll be playing the Mercury Ballroom on October 16 opening up for Jack Russell's Great White/Bulletboys/Enuff Znuff, so I would love to see you people out there to support my band and I. Come Early, this is gonna be fun!

The Metal Grapevine

Louder Than Life is Here!

Well, you've waited and waited and now it's almost here. Make those plans. Be ready! Secure good drugs! (Just kidding.) A few tips for you before you go. Wear comfortable shoes, even if they are ugly. You will thank me later. You hot chicks who wanna wear fancy, sexy, high-heeled shoes? Don't even think about it. Pain. Tip 2 — if up front, watch your back. I almost got ko'ed by people coming over me in waves. Boots come down hard. I've seen peeps get hammered! So be aware. If you get knocked out in the pit — you are in trouble! So be careful. Tip 3 (Important) — Do Not get stuck in that fenced-in area when trying to park. I highly suggest parking on River Road about ½ mile down from the park, towards downtown. It's a bit of a walk, but you can get out of that area pretty freaking fast if you are parked there. I park there every year. Trust me, you don't wanna be stuck in that hideous traffic, all hot, tired and sweaty. Ok, peeps that's it for the tips. I'll see you there. Be sure to say hello!

Friday September 28 — Alice In Chains, Limp Bizkit, Breaking Benjamin, Slash/Myles Kennedy, Seether, Black Stone Cherry, Skillet, Underoath, Suicidal Tendencies, Red Sun Rising, Tremonti, Bad Wolves, Turnstile, Jelly Roll, Hyro The Hero, Badflower, Islander and True Villians.

Saturday September 29 — Godsmack, Five Finger Death Punch, Shinedown, Bush, Bullet for My Valentine, Body Count, Pop Evil, Sevendust, GWAR, Dance Gavin Dance, From Ashes To New, Sick Puppies, Cane Hill. Bad Omens, Blacktop Mojo, Awake at Last, Stone Broken and The Jacks.

Sunday September 30 — Nine Inch nails, Deftones, Ice Cube, Primus, Billy Idol, Action Bronson, Clutch, Asking Alexandria, Yelawolf, The Sword, Glassjaw, The Fever 333, Monster Magnet, Spirit Animal, The dose, and The Brenon Sound.

Ghost coming to Louisville Palace on October 29:

I saw them last time and it was great. The perfect setting for Ghost too! Don't miss this halloween treat.

Bourbon and Beyond Lineup:

Located at Champions Park, just like Louder Than Life, is Bourbon and Beyond, another festival that sounds like a lot of fun. It's on Saturday, September 22 and Sunday, September 23. Last year wasn't really my style of music, but this year looks pretty darn good! Friday it's Brian Setzer's Rockabilly Riot, John Mayer, Lenny Kravitz, Sheryl Crow and others. Saturday features Robert Plant and The Sensational Space Shifters w/ Sting, Blackberry Smoke, Gov't Mule, Counting Crows and others. I really may have to cover this!! Yum, thinking about the food!!

Jack Russell's Great White/Bulletboys/Enuff Znuff coming to The Merc on October 16, and my band is Opening!

Wow! This is a badass Eighties lineup right here! I'm a serious fan of Jack Russell's voice, and of the Bulletboys, and I like songs by Enuff Znuff too! So I'm very stoked that my band Year Of The Gun is opening. I wanna see all of you people there early to support us local guys! In my opinion, Jack Russell's voice is one of the most underrated voices in rock! To prove so, check out this video of Jack performing some Led Zeppelin. I've heard live Robert Plant before, and he never sounded this good live.

Kingdom Come coming to Bourbon Hall on October 14:

Wow! I remember these guys well, and loved them! Drummer James Kottak is from Louisville. He is a good guy. When he was playing with the Scorpions he had me come to Nashville backstage for some sweet coverage. I have a history with these guys kinda, I saw Kingdom Come at Monsters Of Rock in 1988. It was Van Halen, Metallica, Dokken, Kingdom Come, Scorpions. Kingdom Come did excellent and blew half the bands away that day. I'll never forget that day because I was on some pretty powerful LSD and was trippin' balls. The seats in the Hoosierdome sucked and my back was freaking killing me. I'm quite anxious to hear the new vocalist Keith St John. To me, it's very hard picturing a KC without former vocalist Lenny Wolf (I loved his voice!), but I'm willing to see what the goods are like these days. Surely these super talented cats have found a badass MF in the former Montrose/Lynch Mob/Nazareth/Quiet Riot singer. I can't wait to hear these guys once again! It will be like 1988 all over again! And it looks like its all the original members besides Mr Wolf, so this promises to be one special night. I gotta see this! And support a Louisville kid made good, Mr. James Kottak. I absolutely love this song!

Lexington's Society's Plague Returns!

I always liked this band, from the get-go. I used to book them frequently when I booked at Phoenix Hill Tavern. Super nice young guys, and some smokin' musicians with great songwriting skills. No douchy egos, no drama, no negatives whatsoever! Pros. After a several year hiatus, they are back to dominate. They are currently getting ready to go on a regional tour, and they will be a Paddock Pub on October 5, so be sure to stop by to see these cats in action. You won't regret it. I don't get out as much any more because of my work schedule, but I may try to make this one since it's so close to home. In the meantime, check out this sweet video they made not too long ago.

Candlebox Just Announced for Oct 21 at Mercury Ballroom:

I saw them the last time they were there, and it rocked. Don't miss it this time!

Sebastian Bach coming to Trixies:

Awesome. I have always admired Sebastian Bach's voice. I'm definitely going to try to cover this show. I had the pleasure of meeting and partying with him once when I was with 100.5 The Fox, and he is one cool guy. A very underrated vocalist as well, in my opinion. Check out this live footage. Dude can sing and is extremely hard to reproduce live.

Guitarist Eric Johnson coming to the Mercury Ballroom on Friday, October 12:

This dude kills on guitar! Go see him.

Phil Anselmo returns!

With his new band, The Illegals. On Sunday, September 23 at Diamond Concert Hall:

This should be an interesting show. Don't miss openers Rebels and Devils.

South American Power-Metalists Angra come to Louisville for the first time on October 12:

Brazilian power metal merchants are coming to louisville finally. I remember playing this badass band on our old metal radio show "The Attitude Network" way back in the late nineties. I'd love to see them and I will be trying to make this one for sure.

Sounds Like A Lawsuit's New Single:

Here ya go you lovers of the brutal stuff. Brand new music by some local heavies. Enjoy!

Musician Of The Month

This month, is bassist Mystee Bee of the rock band Van Waylon. Be sure to check out this rocker chick's feature!

Dysphorium, Louisville Death Metal:

Nothing Wrong!!!

Check out this new Louisville band called Nothing Wrong playing "Victim Villian Hero Saint."

Fire Department Reunion coming on October 13 at Mercury Ballroom:

Those crazy oldsters never give up and are coming back one more time to rock yer asses off. Opening the show is the amazing young band Doppelganger, so be sure to be early for those cats! Fire Department is Louisville history! Words cannot describe the times I've partied with these guys, back in the heyday of of the Toy Tiger days. Pure debauchery. Be there!

Krosjoint to be booking shows soon:

We had a death in one of our families. My deepest sympathies go out to the Pile family for their tragic loss. Krosjoint will take our time re-honing our craft, and getting over this loss, but we are slowly getting stronger and stronger as a band, and it should not be too much longer now. We got rockin' new members and it is sounding good already so soon. I can feel the power building up bigtime. It's coming!
