News From the Pit
Aye Aye Ayeeee.. . .
: Well, I'm single again. To make a long story short, the lies regarding her ex-husband just kept coming and coming, and I could not deal with it anymore. It was making a mess of me inside. I HAD to let go, even though that was the last thing I wanted. Some people simply cannot change, and I'm not one of these guys who repeatedly get lied to, and say “thank you, mam, may I have another?” No. I will spend eternity alone in seven frozen hells before I allow that. Asking her to move out was extremely hard for me though, heartbreaking really, because I've known her over 30 years, and other than those lies, she was a wonderful GF. She was someone I was fully prepared to grow old with. And if any of you really know me, you'd know how freaking rare that is. She was my heart. I'm crushed. My home is now a sad place, because we remodeled/redid everything together, and I see that shit every day! It's soooo freaking ironic that I had finally (after 49 years! I OL ) turned into a great boyfriend for the last year-and-a-half, from a cheating, horndog, heavy metal guitarist from hell, only to have my heart torn out.
: Life – she is one shady fickle bitch.
: People can change, and I am living proof! At least now I have a clear conscience, knowing I tried my hardest in the end and was finally faithful and did the right thing. I do know this; I will not revert to the old horndog cheating Eddy ever again (it was hurtful and wrong and I learned a valuable life lesson from my ex),. I will stay 100% true to the new me, and I will be the best BF I can possibly be, should I ever be lucky enough to overcome this deep heartache and actually meet someone I like in the future. But truth be told – I think this may have been the final death blow to a heart that had already taken one too many hits in life.
: I wanna thank all of you who have been there for me through this. It has been one rough ride that actually had me questioning my worth. But you good people lifted me up from the darkness and said some really nice things. It helped a little. I really needed that! Thank god overtime at work kicked in the day after all this happened, so I have dived headfirst into work and have been so busy, it's not even funny! That has helped. These days, even church-going nerdy dudes sin more than me! In fact, I'm probably the lamest rocker you have ever heard of. MUSIC! That's the key! Play more, write more! Stay focused on being the best musician/human being that I can.
: Speaking of being a good human being, I have a request for all of you for this holiday season. I'm playing a Benefit Show for the homeless on Friday, December 14 at the Art Sanctuary. The Headliner is the Alice Cooper Tribute – Sick Little Things, so if you love Cooper, you might want to hear these guys! And we also got those kid virtuosos Doppelganger for ya! And of course, you know I'm a benefit playing MF, so my band Year Of The Gun is playing, too! I miss my Rock For Kosair Benefit shows. Such a good cause/good feeling helping people in need. I love it. So let's treat this like Rock For Kosair, and really pull through for Wayside Christian Mission for some good folks that could really use it. You guys n' gals are awesome! So PLEASE, for the sake of good – come support this Alice Cooper H omeless Benefit on Friday, December 14 at The Art Sanctuary. You can make it your good deed for the Holidays! A helping hand. The Show starts at 8P. M so don't be late!!
: I've been trying to keep my mind off things by going out and being with friends. I saw the Velcro Pygmies, Zeroking, Whateverwill and Jackyl (See r eview b elow) recently, and had a lot of fun. I love seeing you people out and about, and socializing with you crazy-ass mofo's! It truly makes me happy that you peeps appreciate what I do, and all the time and effort I've put forth into the multiple endeavors I have engaged in. It means something.
: We have lost a few good men recently: Doug Florio (Kimmet and Doug) and Danny Pulliam (Cains Rage/Streetwalker). R. I. P my fellow rockers. May god bless their souls.
: It just goes to show – you never know how much time you have left on this world, so treat each day like it's the last, and treat those you love like you will never see them again, because some day you won't. And there can be no other pain comparable to that.
: So from the bottom of my heart, I wish all of you the very best holiday wishes, and for you and yours, good health and Happiness.
: MERRY CHRISTMAS and A HAPPY NEW YEAR.

Jackyl Review (Video By Jason Schwartz) :
I gotta be honest with you mofo's, I never really was a fan. I pretty much thought of them as a joke band. A gimmick. I saw them at Phoenix Hill Tavern years ago and they were atrocious. But I was sad, lonely, and depressed, so I thought I'd take my young new guitarist out for a concert, and introduce him to a band he had never even heard of. We ended up having a great time and Jackyl actually put on one helluva show! I was shocked. Singer Jesse James Dupree was quite the showman as he talked, jived, and engaged the crowd like a cocksure gentleman of note. No ego, just straight up bullshitting with his fans, and playing some no-frills rock n' roll. The band was very tight, as they wove their way through Jackyl classics like “My Moonshine Kicks Your Cocaines Ass!” “Screwdriver,” (which the audience sang along with the chorus “I need a screw”), “Down On Me,” “I Stand Alone,” a few covers like “Whiskey Bent And Hell Bound,” “Midnight Rider,” and a few Hee Haw tunes like “Where Are You Tonight” and “Gloom, Agony And Despair." All these done as only Jesse James Dupree could, in his super-raspy, neckneck way. They also played my favorite Jackyl song, “When Will It Rain?” and of course closed with “The Lumberjack Song,” complete with chainsaw.
: Jesse's son Nigel Thomas Dupree was the bassist of the band! He was rockin! The guitarist was on point and did a good job. The drummer had an Eval K nievel emblem on his drumset, which was way cool looking. Southern banners, and the good ole S outh ruled this night at the M erc. The crowd was raucous and entertained by the charismatic Mr Dupree. Even me, a doubter, was cheering and applauding the band's efforts as they rocked the house. Yeah, I was surprised.
: Jesse's voice could have been a little bit better, but with that kind of rasp in a voice, you are lucky to get what you get! That shit is murder on a voice! But Mr Dupree was absolutely killing on guitar as he laid down some serious leads and soulful tone on the axe. I had no idea he was such an accomplished axeman. He was smokin' on some leads! Beautiful sounding stuff. And he had some awesome bluesy tones going too, as he played his beat up old Fender Telecaster during his solo rendition of the Allman Brothers “Midnight Rider," and it sounded great! Wow. Southern Comfort.
: Once again, ole E ddy was eating crow with a smile on my face. It was time I paid homage to a group who did things their way! No trend following, no hair metal fro's, just good rock n' roll fun!
: My guitarist is only 23, and he loved it! He wasn't used to such music, but in the end, he was a fan, and we had fun. He had never heard of Hee Haw, so I told him about that TV show growing up, and how I hated it! Jackyl was a good time, and everyone there seemed to enjoy a highly entertaining set led by one smooth MF'ing frontman who weaved his way around all too gracefully like it was as the easiest task one could ask. I needed to get out and forget a little, and I did. Thanks to Mallory and the Merc for the good times. Sorry I wasn't able to get any pics. It was a last minute request, so I was unable to procure Press Passes. A buddy o' mine got some sweet live footage of Jackyl tho, check it out. Way to go Jason!
Metallica In March!
Saturday, March 9 at the KFC YUM! CENTER! This should be one interesting show. The last time they played there, I was there, and it was kinda boring for real. But since then, they have had a hot charge blown up their asses, and seemed to have returned to heavier roots a little. I saw Metallica in 1986 open for Ozzy outdoors in Cardinal Stadium on the Master Of Puppets Tour! Metallica was getting booed bigtime by the Ozzy fans. People weren't ready for that kind of shredding just yet. Little did they know, how big that band would become! I actually got to see Cliff Burton play! A few months after that show and he was gone forever. Sad. Hopefully, the venue will hook me up this time. Last time I had to go alone, which sucks ass. I'd rather stay home than go review a show alone. What fun is there in that? Anyways, wish me luck!

This sounds too good to be true. I'll definitely go to this one. It's on! I always loved seeing shows there, too. Never a bad time! Get those tickets, this will sell out!
Ozzy Coming To Riverbend On June 6:
This promises to be a rockin' good time! Hope to see you there.
Interview With Bryan Fox On His New Video/Michael Starr Collaboration:
One of my favorite singers in rock today is Michael Starr of Steel Panther. That guy can sing like a MF! He reproduces every single freaking note live in concert. He is truly amazing. And Mr Starr has been jamming with one of our own native sons in Louisville's own Bryan Fox. How neat is that? So I thought I'd do a little interview about the new song/video these two just co-wrote together. I'd love to meet Michael someday, so Bryan, make it happen bro!
Eddy: What's up Bryan! First off, how in the hell did you team up with one of the greatest rock singers active today in Michael Starr? How did you meet him?
Bryan: Man, meeting Michael was just totally a random event. My wife and I went on the KISS KRUISE a few years back and Steel Panther was playing. Lexxi Foxx was hanging out by where my wife and I were on the boat. He and I started talking and just became instant friends. He invited us both to the upcoming Panther date they had in Louisville the next month, and then after that subsequent dates to the surrounding cities. Through that time we got to know the band pretty well and became huge fans of not only their music, but them as people. Michael ended up coming to Louisville and staying with my wife and I for about a week. That's when we collaborated on an idea I already had, which ended up being the song "Eye Candy". I'm not sure any of them knew I was even a serious musician until then!
Eddy: So you just decided you were going to ask him to help you write a song? And dude was so down to earth and humble, he agreed? that's crazy cool. And rare!
Bryan: Yeah man, pretty much exactly like that. We were hanging out in my studio jammin' and I let him hear what I had. We just teamed up and worked out the rest. One thing that many might not know, Michael is a killer guitarist as well! He really had some great ideas and I felt like I definitely got a chance to learn from him about phrasing, etc... He's amazingly humble and happy to share any advice he can give me. For example, I've picked his brain just recently about how to be a better frontman, because it doesn't get any better than him.
Eddy: So what was it like co-writing music with a f**king rockstar? Is he easy to work with? And do you have any good stories (don't hold back on me now!) to tell us of your time spent with Mr Starr?
Bryan: Surprisingly easy, really! He's just so laid back and super-talented it makes it fun. Plus, there's just no deadlines or any pressure behind it. We just write together just for the fun of creating music, which is nice. As far as stories go, the one that sticks out in my mind is the night he arrived in Louisville to visit. My assistant, Beth, picked him up from the airport and was giving him a ride to my house when a truck driven by teenagers rear-ended them at a stoplight. While they were all waiting for the cops to arrive, Michael got out, introduced himself to the teens that had run into them, and started showing them Steel Panther videos! After the police came and took a report, my assistant apologized to him for that happening (even though it wasn't her fault) and he replied "Hey, no prob, hopefully I got a couple new fans out of it!"
Eddy: Tell us about the new video for "Eye Candy" and how you came up with the concept/idea?
Bryan: When Steven Clark and I were discussing "Eye Candy," we definitely wanted to do something different than the first two videos, so we decided to do a live performance concept. I also wanted to make sure that the rest of the guys in the group got some facetime as well. Chip Adams, besides being with me for over 15 years now, flew to LA to perform on the recording of "Eye Candy," so since he was such an integral part of the song I wanted to make sure he was in the video as well. Marc Masden from Louisville Billiards was so generous to offer his club to us all day while we shot. With Maggie Broughton behind the lights, and Steven Clark behind the camera, I think it turned out great.
Eddy: What's next for you my man? Album, shows, new video, another co-written Michael Starr song? It seems you are always busy doing some cool musical stuff. I can't wait to share the stage with you once again, it's been a few years! Since our Rock For Kosair Benefit days!
Bryan: Man, I'm not sure what the future holds besides me continuing to write. Most of the time I don't know I'm doing a new album until I sit back and say "Hey, I've got enough songs recorded to make an album..." Michael and I have a new song we just completed called "So Damn Tired of the Goodbyes" that we are finishing the recording on. I also have another song called "Rise" that is the product of an idea Kevin McCreery brought to me. I'm really excited about that one. I'm going to get Malcolm Springer to mix and produce both of those then decide from there what to do with them. I always have several songs going at all times. I've definitely been fortunate to write with a lot of great writers, several of my favorite right here in Louisville.
Eddy: Thanks for taking the time to let us know about the cool shit you've been doing lately. It's always been a complete pleasure working with you. You sir, are a class act, and I can see why a famous and incredibly busy rockstar would call you a good friend.
Bryan: Thanks so much Eddie for having me and thanks so much for what you have done for the scene all these years!
Here is the video for “Eye Candy!”

R. I. P Doug Florio:
Honestly, I never met the guy before. We did talk online once about a guitar. But seeing this outpouring of sorrow and loss over Mr Florio shows me he was a great freaking guy who is much loved in this community. He was an amazing guitarist, and he accomplished much in this city. Who hasn't heard of Kimmet and Doug? Nobody! So to you, Mr Florio, a fellow axe slinger, Rest In Piece, brother. You will be missed.
R. I. P Danny Pulliam:
Vocalist Danny Pulliam played in the original projects Streetwalker and Cains Rage. Me and this guy played shows together back in the mid Nineties in Central Ky. I didn't know him that well, but he was always a cool guy to me, and very talented on vocals. My deepest condolences to his friends and family. Danny will be missed.
Help Us Get The Church A New Guitar, Because Some Pos Stole Their Other One:
Yeah, it's sad but true. Some thieving scumbag stole the church's (by my house) guitar. So a buddy and I are raising cash to try to buy them a new one. If there is one thing I hate it's a thief. But to steal from a church? OMG. So let's all do a good deed and do our best to get the Open Door Community Church another guitar. We have a gofundme account link below, so please go there and donate. Or you can look us up on gofundme under “Stolen Church Guitar Fund.." We've only raised $156 so far, so please help us achive our $1000 goal so we can get them a new BETTER guitar by mid-December. Or text me to give us a donation in person. 502-609-1696.
