Travis Furlong

Name: Travis Furlong

Age: 31

Instrument: Drums/Guitar

Band/Former Bands: I joined my first band when I was 13. We called ourselves SLANDER. No one else in the band was under 30 years old, so it was definitely an experience. By the time I was 16, we started playing in bars. (Of course, my mother would accompany me to keep the bar owners minds at ease. lol) I played the drums for them for about 4 years and then we parted ways. I had to get back to playing with a band, so a few of my close friends and I started a four-piece heavy metal band called AGAINST IT ALL. We played for a couple years and later changed the name to ARCHITEUTHIS after becoming a three-piece. We had a good run in the local area but never really took it as far as we would have liked. My best friend and I have also had an acoustic band since High School. We go by ALUMINUMB NAIL FACE. I play acoustic guitar and we both sing. We don't really play shows but we have fun writing dark and depressing songs. My current band is GRANSHAW. It is where my passion is. I have been drumming for them since July 27, 2011 and we have been lucky enough to play with some very influential and well known bands such as: Chimaira, Devil Driver, Trivum, Gwar, Prong, Sepultura, Soulfly, Otep, Whitechapel, Members of Green Jelly, Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals, Nile, After The Burial, A Killers Confession, etc. We currently have a show lined up with Flaw, and another show with Thy Art is Murder which is one of my all time favorite bands. We are very honored to be to share the stage with all of those bands, along with all of the countless local bands who have always been kind and supportive. Granshaw means everything to me and I couldn't be happier playing drums with any other group of guys.

How long on instrument: I have played the drums for around 20 years. I've played guitar and sung for about fifteen years but drumming has always been where my heart is.

Equipment: Drum Shells- 7 piece Mapex Pro M Series- Cymbals-Paiste Alpha Metal; Bass Drum Heads- 22" Aquarian Super Kick II; Snare Head-14" Evans Power Center Reverse Dot; Tom Heads-12",13",16",18" Evans EC2; 7. Influences: Brann Dailor of Mastodon ; Chris Adler of Lamb of God ; Danny Carey of Tool; Matthew McDonough of Mudvayne; Lee Stanton of Thy Art Is Murder ; Josean Orta of Fit For An Autopsy ; Austin D'Amond of Devil Driver/The Elite

My first gig: My first gig was January 5, 2002 with my band SLANDER at a Coffee shop called The Java House in Bowling Green KY. I was fourteen and playing a show with a rock band. We killed it.

Hobbies: I watch entirely too much television. Xbox and YouTube also take up a lot of my time. Going to concerts and to the movies are both important to me because I love live music and the big screen. My dog, Smokey, loves tennis balls, so I find myself endlessly throwing tennis balls for him. He's awesome.

Favorite movies: In no particular order some of my favorite movies and tv series are Game of Thrones, Donnie Darko, Waking Life, Boondock Saints, Cloud Atlas, Perfume:The Story of a Murderer, Dexter, True Blood, Vikings, Ancient Aliens, Curse of Oak Island, Anything Starwars, The Lord of The Rings, The Hobbit, Kungfu Hustle, A Clockwork Orange, Lost, The Nines, The Ozark, Avatar, etc.

Favorite food: Chicken Strips, Cheese Pizza, Chili Dogs, Steak, Cheese Burgers, Junk Food.

Favorite place: My favorite place in the world is on stage with my Granshaw brothers behind my drums.

Favorite sports or team: I've never really been into sports enough to have a favorite team so I'm gonna have to go with Jedi.

What I'm listening to nowadays: Rivers of Nihil, Entheos, Thy Art is Murder, The Elite, The Last Ten Seconds of Life, Fit for an Autopsy, Black Crown Initiate, Black Tongue, Mastodon, Lamb of God, Chimaira, Revocation, Enterprise Earth, Humanity's Last Breath, Gojira, etc.

Coolest thing I've done: The coolest thing I've ever done or be apart of was the Force Fed Violence Music Video at the old Lindale Mill in Rome, Georgia. It was like being on the set of a movie. It will be an experience Granshaw will never forget.

Most embarrassing moment: I used to be a plumber and there were many times where I had to talk to customers about what they were and were not supposed to be flushing down the toilet. Not to mention the company trucks had stickers on the doors that were made to look like the driver and passenger was sitting on the toilet. It was a dirty job but somebody had to do it.

Bad Habits: The worst habit I have is definitely smoking cigarettes, which doesn't help my drumming but it's a hard habit to break. I also love fast food and I would be lying if I said I'm not addicted to Mountain Dew. I've never been into alcohol very much, so that's a plus.

What was your first concert ever: The very first concert I attended was a local concert in a Papa John's parking lot but the first big band concert was Godsmack and Metallica 2004 at Freedom Hall in Louisville KY.

If you could meet a Rockstar (past or present), who would it be, and why: If I could meet any Rockstar, it would be Brann Dailor of Mastodon or Chris Adler of Lamb of God. They are my biggest influences when it comes to drumming.

Who do you love: I love my parents Debra and Wayne Furlong. They have always supported me, my love for music and drumming. I literally wouldn't be here to experience this insane world if it wasn't for them. I have the best parents I could have ever asked for. I love my friends who have stood by my side no matter how annoying and ridiculous I get sometimes.haha I love my dog Smokey no matter how annoying and ridiculous he gets sometimes. Last but certainly not least, I love my brothers in Granshaw, Bo White, Corey Arnold and Josh Puckett because without them, there is no telling what I would be doing with my life.
