News From the Pit
By Eddy Metal

It's Derby Time!

Time for a little fun. I'm seriously thinking about going to the Derby, if it doesn't rain! The weatherman has been sooo full of shit at predicting Derby weather these last few years, that I don't trust the forecast at all. Every year I'll plan to not go because of rain predictions, and it'll no doubt 100% be sunny and nice guaranteed! I felt like punching the weatherman in his Aye, eye, eye! Clowns!

I could really use some raunchy fun with good friends at the Derby! My childhood chums congregate there every year for infield debauchery. Ahhh, the things I've seen there! I always have fun when I go. Dark clouds have passed, and I am happy to report that I have some pretty good things going on in my life now! I'm about to unleash the all-new Krosjoint upon the masses very soon (this new stuff is sick! and heavy AF), I found a replacement guitarist for Year Of The Gun super fast (thank God, former YOTG guitarist Kris Walls is coming back into the fold. Welcome back, brother!), there is a ton of sweet concerts coming up that I can review/photograph that I'm stoked about, I've taken the first steps to pimp out my challenger (racing stripes, new spoiler, paint touchups), I'm doing some sweet renovations to my home, and I got another raise at work! And I'm 100% free of DRAMA! Things are definitely looking up. I am genuinely excited about this summer and what it holds for me! So far this has been one shitty year for me. But that will soon be remedied. I'm ready to rock! In more ways than one. I may even be looking into taking a vacation by myself, since most women I date are so flaky and unpredictable anymore, why let that drama ruin my much needed/deserved time off? Plus I don't have to stress about if my partner can come up with the cash, like always, which has always been a problem. I have never taken a vacation alone before, but if a buddy in a band I know can do it and have a blast, then so can I. I'm thinking an Island paradise, maybe a week in Jamaica. I dunno, the sky is the limit though. I work hard and deserve this! I'll fly solo, or go with a buddy, and party like a f'ing rockstar! I know so many people, and have such a personality that I can have fun anywhere alone! I go to shows alone sometimes and always have a blast! I'm blessed for that. I'm just ready to enjoy life.

Single life is the way for me! There are a few cuties I'm talking to (one blonde I've had a crush on for awhile in particular), but I have absolutely zero love interests at this time. I am 100% alone. And it's not that bad. I'm cool with it. The freedom is amazing. Besides, people are soooo messed up these days. Issue after issue. No one seems to have their shit together anymore (except for the blonde).

WTF? The chances of finding someone who isn't nuts, a cheater, a liar, broke, carless, jobless, almost homeless, on drugs bad, with "ex" issues, is about 5000 to 1. Seriously shitty odds. I actually thought I had met a chick I could really seriously possibly date (it was soooo close, people), but it ended up being nothing more than wishful thinking on my part. Way too much unnecessary unwarranted drama. I never liked fighting or arguing or drama. I am waay too laid back for all that jazz. I'll f**king leave before that crap goes on too long! And that's exactly what happened. I freaking had to! It makes me very sad though because I liked this one quite a bit (that rarely happens), and tried my hardest to work things out the best I could. But there was little hope for happiness there, for several reasons. She was a very sweet girl though, and I wish her happiness and the very best in life. She is a beautiful gal with like 900 guys after her, so I know she will be fine.

Oh well, NEXT! I've never been one to dwell too long, especially when wronged.

I'm sure I will be able to find some gal to drag around to all these shows and such. Finding dates has always been pretty easy for me; it's finding the worthy sane responsible faithful ones that is the ultimate challenge! I'm taking applications for hot dates, so you single ladies, look up Duane Eddy Burke on Facebook to check out my ugly ass! I'm hideous, but I do have a charming personality, and a Challenger!

Oh yeah, you might wanna link up with me there anyways, because I've been doing some sweet-ass Concert Ticket Giveaways thru LIVENATION! I just gave away tickets to Rob Zombie, In This Moment, Tom Morello, Overkill, Stryper, Fever 333 and Beartooth! Props to Livenation for the love they have shown me and my readers, and my bands. They always take care of me and have appreciated my work, and that means a lot. Thank you! I have reviewed more of their shows than anyone in Louisville history! Guaranteed. So I have earned this.

New shit — Ozzy/Megadeth cancelled, this sucks ass, I was gonna go to this! Michael Schencker cancelled! Motley Crue's "Dirt" tour is coming! C. O. C is coming! And the Louder than Life lineup is out, and the bands I'm looking forward to seeing are Guns N' Roses, Philip Anselmo and The Illegals, Suicidal Tendencies, Stone Temple Pilots and Angel Dust. I guess it might be interesting to finally see Marilyn Manson, as long as he don't pull me onstage and try to forcibly fellatiate me. Dude is weird. I have been there for LTL from the beginning and I will be there to support them again, through thick and thin! Hurt foot, broken heart, whatever!

It's all for good and fun though, and that is what LIFE is about. Enjoying the short time you have here on this earth. Steering clear of the negative while you strive for prosperity and happiness. The choices you make throughout life determine your final outcome, never forget that! So stop and think before you act, for poor decisions can lead to disaster and heartache/grief like you have never known.

So be like me! When negative shit comes your way, whether it be a shitty person, or drama in general, smack that shit the fuck away! You don't need that crap. Life is too short for stressful bullshit drama. Fuck anything that is gonna pull you down with it. Stand on your own two feet and keep your nose to the grindstone and keep looking straight ahead! That's the path.

Ever since I adopted that motto, I have done sooo much better in life.

You cannot let idiot negative MF'ers drag you down!

I'm outtie. I'm heading up to Overkill/Death Angel tonight to get a dose of some oldschool thrash done right, and I can't wait! It's been a while, and I look forward to seeing them again. I actually opened for Overkill twice before!

I wish y'all the best Derby ever, and I will see you in the Infield on Derby Day, possibly, if it doesn't rain! Or at all these badass shows! Next week is gonna be hell for me, I'll be reviewing three shows if all goes as planned.

My poor ass will be sooo tired from work and concerts! Pity me dammit!

Be sure to say hello if you see me out! Especially you cute single women.

Aye aye ayeeee!!!

Stay Classy Louisville.

Overkill "Live at the Merc" Review!

I love this band. Vocalist Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth gets up on stage and says "We are Overkill from Jersey, and we're here to give you a beating!"

And damned if they didn't. A right good pummeling! Just what a loyal metalhead needed.

Man, what an early starting show! I was tired AF from working all day, but I wasn't going to miss this! This night I was reminded why these guys are legends in the metal world. Maybe not by their fame or money making ability, but by cranking out some vicious tunes over the course of some 30 years! Yup, that's right! I got there too damn late to see much of Death Angel, which pissed me off. Why would the co-headliner play at 8P. M? That's insane. So I missed pretty much the whole freaking set of Death Angel.

Doody.

The two last songs I saw were badass though, and at least I was lucky enough to see "The Ultra-Violence" and "Kill As One. " The guitars were killing! Vocalist Mark Osegueda sounded as good as he ever did. He hasn't lost his touch at all, I'm thinking.

Overkill came on and Bobby Blitz said "We are Overkill from Jersy, and we're here to give you a beating!" And beat down they did, a brutal set spanning almost thirty years of classic thrash metal. Super tight, punchy, and the band roared through song after song with a ferocity and finesse that is hard to find for real. Usually these days, vocally, you get these whiney screamo chumps who all sound the exact same. Booooring! Thank god for Bobby Blitz Ellsworth. Dude is an icon. He looks like a hideous little creature in a Lord Of The rings movie! He even joked about how ugly he was. Funny guy. He even sounds like one of those hideous dwarf/goblin type creatures, but there is something about the guy. His creativity. His razor sharp precision. His love for high notes and how he pulls them off flawlessly. Face it, dude has got a strange, strange voice. It's raspy, gravelly, high pitched, and he uses vibrato technique on top of all that! Craziness. Somehow, it works for him, and works for Overkill perfectly. Bobby sounded killer this night, and delivered those vocals that would have any lesser singer out of commision for at least 4 days! "How does he do that night after night" one fan asked? I do not know. My voice would have been history by the seventh song for sure. But Bobby performed like a champion! The whole band did. Very tight performance. And seeing DD Verni again on those widow basses was cool. What a great bassist, with awesome tone! Some of the best bass tone I've heard has come from DD Verni. Guitarists Dave Linsk and Derek Tailer tore shit up! Linsk handled the leads and Tailer was the chunky rhythm guy. Great guitar combo, and Overkill worthy. No complaints. Boy, did Dave Linsk have some seriously pointy guitars though! I thought I liked pointy guitars! Dude coulda killed someone. Tailer was content with his crisp chunky riffs on his trusty Dean guitars. The tones were fat and meaty, as only Overkill could be! The drummer of Overkill was a monster; he used to play with Shadows Fall, I heard. Well, now he has a real singer! I liked Shadows Fall's music, but that singer sucked ass. The mood was metal, the stage was green, and it was OVERKILL. Those Jersy beasts came to conquer and they made their point pretty well, I'd say. Songs they played were "Last Man Standing," "Hello From The Gutter," "Elimination," "Head Out Of A Pin," "Necroshine," "Bastard Nation," "Mean Green Killing Machine" and "Rotten to The Core" but by that time I was ready to collapse, so I headed home happy as hell that I had gotten to see a childhood favorite in action. Great show, great performance and it was like a trip back in time that made me happy. It was worth only getting four hours of sleep that night! Next Week I have three shows to cover. I'm f*ked!!! Sorry I could not get pictures, I went at the last minute and didn't have time to get a photo pass this time!

Thanks for bringing them to the Mercury Ballroom.

Annie's in Cincinatti to Re-Open!

Cannastock is back and it'll be camping, music, and weed, for those who love that kinda stuff! Cannastock is a music and cannabis awareness festival held in Central to Eastern Kentucky every year. I played two of them. One was great, but the other was kind of a mess because of the location. I hope this year they got things worked out again, because my band is playing again. It's the first week in August in Hustonville KY. More info to come SOON! Get ready to rock this MF 420 style!

Tesla Coming to The Palace September 6!

I saw these guys last time they were here, and it was killer! Be sure to see this if you like the band. Great musicians and real cool guys! I did a phone interview with them and they were very humble folks.

Motley Crue "Dirt" Tour coming September 4 at the Yum!

Yes, they lied. They did not retire. That whole Dirt movie thing got the cash flowing again, and built up interest bigtime. Smart. Those guys are cashing in on that flick! They are coming to town with Machine Gun Kelly, the rapper anmd actor who starred as Tommy lee in the movie. Rap and Motley Crue? Aye, aye, ayeee. I dunno about all that, but we'll see how it goes.

Corrosion Of Conformity coming to The Merc on July 31!

The kings of stoner groove metal is coming to Louevil on July 31 with Crowbar. This should be a major sludgefest. Locals Luther or Krosjoint would be perfect for this gig! Hint hint!

Tool Coming to KFC Yum Center!

Wednesday, May 8 is the day many people in Louisville will be happy. Tool is finally gonna play here. People are excited bigtime. And tickets are flying, and may even be sold out already from what I hear. So if I were you, I wouldn't wait one second to try to procure tickets. You might be shit outta luck, but it don't hurt trying! I've never been a big Tool fan, but I may just try to cover this one anyway just to see what all the hubbub is regarding this band and their legion of diehard followers. I guess I better go ahead and send my media request ASAP. I wonder if Maynard will wear the purple sequined panties again? Like he did at Ozfest many years ago. That was the only time I ever saw them.

Rob Zombie at Louisville Palace on May 6!

I've seen Mr Zombie numerous times, even when he was with White Zombie, and he always puts on a decent show! This one promises to be epic because of the sweet ass location! My favorite place to see a show in Louisville. And you can't beat seeing guitarist John 5 tear shit up on his lighted custom guitars! So yeah, this one is gonna be a must see for sure! So get those tickets because this will probably sell out. You know my concert going ass will be there with camera in hand! Reviewing shows is a great love affair of mine and I'll stop when I'm dead.

In This Moment at Louisville Palace on May 7!

Awwww hell, you know I'll be going to this! I reviewed and photographed them the last time they were at The Palace and it was freaking awesome! I got some amazing pictures of Maria Brink, and the band was badass. Do yourself a favor, and get these tickets asap! Do NOT miss this. They put on one great show complete with props, crazy outfits, and Maria belting out some tremendous vocals, and also looking sexy AF. That chick moves me from 6 to midnight in like two seconds. Get those tickets!!

Mastodon coming to Iroquois Amphitheater Tuesday, May 28!

This promises to be a night to remember. A social gathering of the twisted. I wasn't never really a fan of the band till I saw them live. Now I dig them! I'm looking forward to this one! I've always loved The Iroquois Amphitheater. This will be quite the event. Other bands on the bill are; Coheed and Cambria and Every Time I Die.

Buckethead's Halloween in May Tour coming to Louisville Palace on Monday, May 13!

Guitarist extraordinaire Buckethead will be having a Halloween concert that you might want to attend. I'm looking forward to this show! Should be a total freakfest! My kinda show! I'm sure I'll be there, as I think buckethead is a guitarist not of this world. Super creative and original. I can't wait.

Stryper Coming to The Merc on Sat May 25!

Christian metal legands Stryper are coming back to the Mercury Ballroom, and I highly recommend all of you metalheads to go see these guys. They kick so much ass live, and always have! I saw them when I was 15 or 16 and have been hooked ever since. Excellent musicians. Don't miss this!

He is no Brucie, but he was in Iron Maiden, and that means something. He had a few good songs with Maiden. So check out the British metal invasion on Derby weekend at The Tiger Room. Locals Goodnight Carnage and Viken will be opening.

Crazy Train Reunion with former guitarist Scott Gravil!

King Diamond "Songs Of The Dead DVD Review:

Omg. This is one of the best music DVD concerts I have ever seen. The clarity, musicianship, and sound quality and mix is outstanding. "Songs Of The Dead Live" is a work of art. It features two shows from the 2015 & 2017 tour. It features the entire Abigail album as well as such classics as "Sleepless Nights" "Welcome Home" "Melissa" "Come To The Sabbath" & "Halloween." But the true work of art here is the entire Abigail album. It freaking rocks! Note for note people! Andy LaRocque & Mike Wead do some brilliant guitar work, and break out the acoustics for some beautiful intros & breakdowns. Drummer Matt Thompson is a beast. You have to be to play these songs right. Amazing drumming talent here! Wow. King Diamond? What can you say about that man? Wow! He is 62 and sounds better than ever before, even when he was young! How does he do that? How does he get so high pitched and maintain it, still to this day? His range and power is ridiculous. Every note was hit. No cracking. No flurbs. No mispronounced words. Dude was flawless. Me and my roommate love King Diamond to death, so we been jamming this MF out all the time. It is not getting old. The stage looks crazy with upside down crosses and gothic crap everywhere, but it's the music that matters here! Not gimmicks. And these Danish musicians are unreal. Do yourself a favor and look up Songs Of The Dead Live and hear for yourself, the age defying King Diamond in action. He must have really sold his soul to the devil to hold power in his voice like this for so long. It's unheard of for real! Your highs are the first thing to go health/age wise as a singer! King's actually got much better! WTF! I don't know. It's very odd. Go check the song's "Sleepless Night's" or "Possession" on the DVD to see what I mean. The actress who plays Abigail running around the stage does quite a good job at playing a witch. That bitch is scary looking. And kinda hot. Ha. Anyways, it's a rip roaring oldschool metal vacation to revisit the great great grandfather of evil European progressive metal! King Diamond is god! If you are a fan, buy this immediately! It's BADASS.

This Month's Musician Of The Month is Johnny Edwards of Bleu Phonque and formerly Foreigner!

This guy is a Louisville legend, so who better to cover! Right? Don't miss this edition! Read his feature!
