Scott Gravil

Name: Scott Gravil

Age: 52

Instrument: Guitar

Band/Former Bands: I have recently rejoined with the Ozzy tribute, Crazy Train. November 30th at Louisville Billiards is our next show. I have also played for Stranger, Saphire, 2112 (Rush tribute), Counterparts (Rush tribute) and Paglina.

How long on instrument: I have been playing since I was 9 years old. That would be 43 years.

Equipment: As far as guitars, I have two Gibson Les Pauls, a Fender Stratocaster, an Epiphone SG double-neck and an Ibenez classical. I play through two half stack amplifiers. One is a Marshall JCM 2000 and the other is a Wallace Abaddon. For effects I use a Roctron Intellifex and floor pedals such as a Crybaby wah and a Tube Screamer.

Influences: I would have to say that my main influence has been my uncle, Rubin Morris. He is the one who made me want to start playing before I was 9. He gave me my first guitar lessons teaching me stuff like Wipeout and music from The Ventura’s. He played this Fender Stratocaster he has had since the 60s. He is the coolest guy I know. I wanted to play like him. Other influences are Randy Rhodes, Alex Lifeson, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, George Lynch, Steve Howe and Stevie Ray Vaughn

My first gig: My first gig was at the Carl Casper Car Show Battle of the Bands with a band my brother and I started, Stranger.

Hobbies: Other than playing guitar I enjoy working out. I also love being on the water whether it’s kayaking down a river or jet skiing on a lake.

Favorite movies: I like action movies and comedies. Movies such as The Matrix, John Wick, Man On Fire, The Waterboy and Stepbrothers.

Favorite food: Steak

Favorite place: My favorite place would have to be on stage.

Favorite sports or team: I grew up liking the Cowboys. I’m not much into sports these days.

What I'm listening to nowadays: I like listening to anything from classic rock, progressive rock to metal. I am listening to Ozzy and Black Sabbath right now to get ready for the up coming show. I also enjoy listening to Rush, Yes, Boston and Led Zeppelin.

Coolest thing I've done: I think the coolest thing I’ve done or doing is raising my three daughters.

Most embarrassing moment: Crazy Train was playing in Buffalo, NY. This guy walked up on stage with long greasy hair wearing over-alls. I was in the middle of a solo when this guy pulled my hair back and started pouring beer down my throat. Later during the drum solo, I walked over to the side of the stage and asked our stage hand why did he let that guy on stage. He looked at me and laughed, then said ‘Dude that was Zakk Wylde’! I didn’t believe him until Pat announced he wanted some guests to come on stage and do a few songs. I then recognized Zakk while I was handing him my guitar.

Bad Habits: Hammer-ons and pull offs instead of picking every note.

What was your first concert ever: Kiss and Ted Nugent. I think it was 1985.

If you could meet a Rockstar ( past or present ), who would it be, and why?: Jimmy Page. Because of all the cool music he wrote.

Who do you love: My three daughters and the rest of my family.
