Charles Wilkerson

Name: Charles Wilkerson aka CARLOS DANGER

Age: 31

Instrument: Bass Guitar

Band/Former Bands: My current band is THROWBACK THURSDAY, a 90s and 2000s pop punk/emo cover band. I've also played bass in The Winter of Twenty Six, and Black Bird County.

How long on instrument: 15 Years

Equipment: I play two main basses, a 2005 made in Mexico Jazz Bass, and a “made in Mexico” Fender Jaguar Bass. I use a Digitech Drop Pedal and a Sans Amp DI Bass Driver. For my amp, I use an Ampeg 350 SVT into a 4 x10 cabinet.

Influences: Growing up my biggest influences were Christopher Wolstenholme of Muse, Mark Hoppus of Blink-182, Mike Dirnt of Green Day, and Jason McCaslin or better known as Cone of Sum-41. All these musicians wrote some iconic bass lines.

My first gig: My first gig was with Black Bird County, a country band, at Baxter's 942, back in 2013. I had a great time on that little stage, it really pushed me to become a better musician so I could continue delivering on stage.

Hobbies: If I'm not playing bass, I enjoy baking, playing video games, and collecting and drinking bourbon.

Favorite movies: This is one of those hardest questions you could have asked me. If I had to pick would be Scott Pilgrim vs. the world. It's a fun movie from start to finish with multiple Easter eggs, and Scott plays bass guitar in the movie.

Favorite food: I love some chicken tikka masala with some garlic naan from the Clay Oven in Middletown.

Favorite place: During the quarantine I've put a lot of time in making my screened in patio a very nice and relaxing place. It's my little oasis from the terrible world we live in currently. I enjoy going out there with some bourbon and watching the sunset while hanging out with my dog.

Favorite sports or team: Unfortunately, I'm a Chicago Bears fan for football. They haven't amounted to anything in recent years, but I will still support them through thick and thin. I'm also a huge Boston Red Sox fan because of my wife. I'm such a huge fan that I named my dog Fenway after the ballpark. For college sports, I'm a UofL fan and am really excited for the future of both the basketball and football programs.

What I'm listening to nowadays: Since I'm in a 90s-2000s cover band, I'm always listening to pop-punk and emo music from that era. What I have been doing is listening to those bands whole discography versus their hits.

Coolest thing I've done: If we are talking about musically, it would be playing to a sold-out show at Headliners for Louisville Loves Emo in 2019. If we are talking personally, probably marrying my high school sweetheart.

Most embarrassing moment: It's going to seem lame, but one time when we were playing live, I completely botched the intro to dance dance by Fall Out Boy. I started it in the wrong key and forgot to turn on the drop pedal. I tried to recover, but we had to restart the whole song.

Bad Habits: I judge people really hard, I shouldn't, but I usually make snap judgments on people within the first few moments.

What was your first concert ever: Bon-Jovi with the Goo-Goo dolls at Riverbend. It was the most dad bands ever, but I went with my dad so it makes sense hahaha.

If you could meet a Rockstar (past or present), who would it be, and why: I'd love to meet Tom Delong of Blink-182 so I can convince him to rejoin Blink-182 so they can go back to making great music and not this crap they are trying to pass off as music now.

Who do you love: I love my wife. my family, my friends, and my bandmates in THROWBACK THURSDAY.
