Louisville Rock Closeup
By Eddy Metal

What up slugs! I'm recently back from a sweetass cabin trip in the mountains where a huge deer with glowing red eyes stared right into my soul from the darkness near our firepit. It might have been Satan. Those glowing eyes! It looked like a mutated, giant-size, demon-possessed Bambi. Aye aye ayeeee! We went at the most perfect time, too, the day that protestors/clowns lying in the streets acted afool all across Louisville. Pshhh, I was in a huge hot tub on an outdoor deck with a frosty beverage in my hand.

Summer is almost over and I hope you all managed to have at least a little bit of fun. I know I know, it's been rough for everybody. But the election is coming up and I have a feeling all the virus stuff will suddenly and miraculously get all better, come mid-November. Unfortunately, the economy/music scene has paid an extremely high price for the fear-mongering, pick and choose, double standard bullshit shutdowns. Unreal. Many a business has closed down! There are only two or three clubs that book original music anymore. I never thought I would see the day that our once awesome music scene would come to this travesty! Everybody stuck in all summer, with not much to do. It's total horseshit. Awesome musicians, with no stage from which to shine.

But we must soldier on. I know I'm not ready to quit playing music! I'll put on my own freaking shows somehow>,> if I hafta! I'll rent out a place, or have another of my infamous parties. I just wanna play! Last night, I jammed with my band Year Of The Gun for the first time in >six> looong months, and I must say, it felt good. Our singer lost his voice and had to seek treatment and heal, so we had to take a break. He is on the road to recovery, is throat cancer-free, and I'm thinking in a month we will be tight enough for a show (sooner actually, but I'm always gonna make sure we are tight AF.) I've only played one show all year! That seriously blows. twenty-twenty sucks big ole covid infested donkey balls.

All I can say is, thank god I got together with my GF and risked going out west to Wyoming/Montana/Colorado a month and a half ago. And we are still alive! Imagine that! Pshhh. That shit totally saved my year. This year would have really sucked ass had that not happened. Other than that, I haven't done much either really, other than nature stuff. I did go out a few times recently to Louisville Billiards and saw the new cover band Falls City Freeloaders (they were fun!), and 2 Pump Chump again. Both bands did very well, and it was good to get out and spend time with friends. I would like to give props to Marc Masden the owner of Louisville Billiards for keeping things alive and for not buying into all this bullshit our shitty elected officials have been pulling on us. He has been fighting for you and your freedom from the start of all this. The fact that shows were allowed to happen there when no one else was doing shit, has meant an awful lot to us band's and our peeps. Dawg went outta his way to make sure you people had entertainment and did not go out of your fucking minds sitting at home. And that Marc supports original music just makes him even cooler. So thanks bro, we appreciate you! Keep up the good work, and keep fighting “the good fight.” Hang on till November!!

As you can imagine, there isn't awfully too much to write about musically these days. The Ryan Preston Benefit, — LRSfest, the fella's in Days Of the New/Tantric got a new band going, local vocalist Mike Duncan joined a nationally touring Black Sabbath Tribute, and a few more lovely tidbits for you to feast upon. I'm trying! Fuck.

I'm just gonna try to stay positive, write some new music, play a few shows with YOTG, try to get a fresh new exciting version of Krosjoint going, and hope to god to be able to get out and see some national shows sometime soon! Reviewing shows and taking pictures, and seeing tons of friends. I miss that chit.

And I miss all of you crazy assholes too. Most of you, anyways. The haters can Fuck Off! Ha. You bastages have made my life one big long fun adventure and I thank you for it from the bottom of my big ole, cheeseball heart. The times I've had, the sights I've seen, it's been pretty EPIC.

The Metal Grapevine

Lrsfest Twenty-Twenty W/ Lineup:

Props to LRS for making this happen. It will be on October 2 and 3 at the Enchanted Forest in New Albany. Friday night it starts at 7:00 p.m.. and features Turn3, P#and@%$! and The Tunesmiths. Saturday starts at 2:00 p.m. and features The Crosswalks, Hidden Foundation, Laynes Calling, Chadillac Dundee, Near Existence, Banshee Child, Anemic Royalty, Signal The Revolution and E-Flat. A much better lineup than last year I must say. Support original music.

Kingdom Come Online Concert:

Fans of the Eighties band Kingdom Come (featuring Louisville born drummer James Kottak, who also played with the Scorpions for years) can watch an online concert featuring the band this Saturday, Sept 5 at 2 p.m. Pacific time! It's on facebook live and costs $10 in advance, or $15 the day of show. I saw them about a year or so ago at the 30 Year Reunion show and it was awesome. What a great band. Here is some footage I got of their set.

Great White's Tailgatin' At The Dam-An Outdoor Concert Bash In Southern KentucKentucky:

On Saturday, September 26 at Beaver Dam City Park in southern Kentucky, Great White will be playing an outdoor concert called Tailgating at the Dam. It's at 6:30 p.m. sounds like a blast! The opening band is the The League Of Dangerous Gentlemen. Look up ticket info at mt.cm/great-white. The new singer, Mitch Malloy, is a great singer, so this should be much much better than the guy who sang for them last. Replacing Jack Russell is no easy task, after all. I got the opportunity to open for Jack Russell's Great White about two years ago, and it was a great honor to open up for one of my vocal heroes. I'm glad they finally found a decent singer who can do the songs justice. Mitch used to sing for Van Halen for a very short time! Crazy! I would like to go to this show. I am going to see about reviewing/photographing it. Here is some footage of the new singer Mitch Malloy.

Ryan Preston Cancer Benefit Results:

Over $5500.00 WAS RAISED for the Ryan Preston fundraiser. That poor guy has been through some serious shit lately, and it sucks that it has happened to a really good person. I wish it could have been one of the arrogant asshole musicians that occupy this city, instead of one of the good guys. Ryan is a fighter though, and I think he will pull through. Ryan has always been a very nice, supportive, down-to-earth, and very talented individual. I wish I could play guitar like that guy. Dude is a beast, with a never-give-up attitude, and I love that! I remember looking down from the stage and seeing Ryan there supporting my music, even though he kills me on guitar. Now that’s a friend. I don't forget things like that. Promoter Kristi Stewart did a noble thing by organizing this event (well done!), and you gotta show love for the bands who played. I wish I could have played it, too. Bands that contributed a performance are: Skipping Stone, Randy Chandler, Juke Joint Revival, Rachel Oldham, Laynes Calling, Apod, Dirty Dollz and the Tyrants and Justin Slaughter.

Thanks guys n' gals!

There is a gofundme page still accepting donations, I'm getting ready to donate right here in a few minutes myself, so please do the same, go donate now! I'm telling you right now, this is a good man, and he deserves some help in these difficult times. It's at http://gf.me/u/yjwi7s

Here is a video of Ryan shredding in action! This one is for you bro!

Local Singer Joins Nationally Touring Tribute Band Sabbath- The Complete Black Sabbath Experience:

Central Kentucky vocalist Michael Duncan has just joined the nationally touring tribute band SABBATH-The complete Black Sabbath Experience. These cats suppossedly have their shit together and are the real deal. I'm not sure of whats going on with Last Sabbath, his other sabbath tribute, but I can say the nationally touring version made a great choice in recruiting Mike! He is an amazing singer. More details as I get them! Congrats Mike! Here is Mike in Action with Last Sabbath. Listen to that voice!

Days Of The New/Tantric Guys Form New Band Called Blisskrieg:

The guys have something new up their sleeve, and I'm sure it's going to be pretty good. The band consists of Todd Whitener on guitar, Jesse Vest on bass, Matt Taul on drums and Donald Carpenter on vocals. I will let you know more when I know more. Maybe I'll do an interview next month or something. It's all still very new! Here is some old footage of DOTN. Enjoy.

Musician Of The Month Is Bassist Charles Wilkerson Of Throwback Thursday:

Be sure to check out his feature in this month’s LMN. And no, this is not the feature, it's in another part of LMN foolio's! Look it up!

Scary Uncle Reunion:

One of my favorite Louisville cover bands is returning for one night only, and my old buddy growing up, and beast on the drums, Danny Murphy, is even coming up from Florida to play the show! The show is at Louisville Billiards on September 12. Be there! These guys kick ass! Good dudes, too. Let's face it, the level of talent in cover bands now, has declined in my opinion. It's just not like it used to be. Here is some footage of the uncle in action.

The King Of Louisville Security, Rick Ford Passes:

I am very saddened to report that the top dawg of Louisville security at concerts and shows in Louisville for the past twenty years has passed away. Rick was an amazing guy always, and cared very much for all of us, unlike most security folk. Many tales have I heard of him making sure people got home safely, and looking out for folk. When I heard this it made me really sad. This guy was one of the best dudes ever. There was no way you could not like Rick! Impossible. R.I.P., my friend, and thank you for always being to me and being good to us concertgoing fans. You will be missed!

Krosjoint Seeking Singer And Drummer:

We need a freaking vocalist and drummer! I'm wanting to reform Krosjoint with a fresh and exciting new lineup of reliable individuals.

Someone with a great love for stoner metal and power groove. A vocalist with soul! Metal with feeling! Interested parties should email me at Eddymetal1@aol.com on contact duane eddy burke on facebook.
