Louisville Rock Closeup
By Eddy Metal

Name: Mathew Taul.

Age: 42. Born Aug 30, 1978.

Instrument: Drums/Percussion. I Have played drums as long as I can remember. Just yesterday on FB One of my Dad’s old friends told me I sat on my father’s lap as he played Pedals. I played hands on his kit as early as 1982

Band/Former Bands: BLISSKRIEG/DAYS/TANTRIC/DEAD RECKONING

How long on instrument: 1982.

Equipment: I use at the moment Sonor/sabian/alesis/promark but I like to use what sounds good in the room. Sometimes it may be a old Ludwig snare or Zildjian ride. It could even be broken but I typicaly use what sounds best and is available at the time.

Influences: I started listening to Zepp/Purpule/Sabbath/Maiden. They are the True Rock 'Gods' that started it all for me, but I also loved Chains/Garden. I also enjoy Wayne Shorter to Bjork and in between. I just love good music - Drummers Danny Carey/Bonham/Carter Beauford/Neil Peart and so many others.

My first gig: My first public gig was the Carl Casper Auto Show 1990. Something as Dead Reckoning before we became Days of the New. We did not win! LOL.

Hobbies: I like to build things. I like to customize motorcycles, and listen to kick-ass vinyls.

Favorite movies: I have to say my favourite movie is Conan The Barbarian. It has one of the best soundtracks ever, plus it was in the Eighties, the coolest time ever! How about Eddie and the Cruisers, Streets of Fire, and I cannot leave out the Duke Or my man Clint Eastwood.

Favorite food: I love sushi and pizza I like nice restaurants or someone to cook for me but Whitecastle Big Red and Dusseldorf mustard. It’s pretty amazing. It was even better on the way home from the Toy Tiger at 3 am.

Favorite place: My favorite place to be is on stage with a great crowd. Red Rocks in Colorado kicks some serious ass.

Favorite sports or team: DA VILLE GO CARDS!

What I'm listening to nowadays: I listen to a lot of Clutch / Jethro Tull been on a Hall n Oates kick lately.

Coolest thing I've done: Was meeting Vinnie Paul. We opened for Creed and I was walking back stage and I hear my full name shouted out. I turned around it - was Vinnie. I had no idea he even knew me. He said “Nice to meet ya I love your stuff after your show come hang with me” and I did until daylight. in his limo, talking drums, so cool. He is a bad ass, and at that moment I was complete.

Most embarrassing moment: Have had so many embarrassing moments that one’s hard to answer. Well, when we played the Carl Casper auto show, they used to used a dead Ringer on the snare. I was not used to it. It flipped up around my arm Freaked me out and we had to start the song over after 10 or 15 seconds in.

Bad Habits: I really love sweets. Some would say I have a gummy bear Addiction.

What was your first concert ever: If I am not mistaken it was Ozzy Osbourne, Alice In Chains, Pantera and maybe someone else opening up before Pantera. Early early nineties and it was bad-ass.

Who do you love: I love my wife, my children, My grand kid, friends and family. Most of all I love God.
