Louisville Rock Closeup

Name: My name is Todd Nelson and I've been playing in the local original music scene in Louisville Kentucky since 1997 (24 yrs).

Age: I'm 52 years young, and on a couple of occasions been known for "Who's that old guy on stage?" Instrument: Playing the guitar has al ways been my passion. I started out playing the bass guitar when I was twelve years old, then a year later bought my first guitar, a Dean Hollywood Z from Music Warehouse in 1982.

Band/Former/Bands: Co-founded EFLAT in 1996 with Rodney Adams (Rod Mac) and Stacy Hendricks (Hindu). In 2001 we split for awhile and I went to play guitar with Flatlyne. In 2005 Eflat reunited with a few new members, some of whom helped form my cover band Crash Planet..Eflat is now back to our original five-member lineup with Timmy O' Flaherty (guitars) and Erich Otto (bass).Eflat is currently writing new material for an upcoming album.

How long on instrument: I've been playing guitar for 39 years now.Mostly writing and playing Metal, Rap, and Rock-n-Roll, and wouldn't have it any other way.

Equipment: My guitars are an 83 Washburn Falcon, a 2014 USA Gibson Les Paul Studio with burstbucker pickups, and a borrowed Fender Squier Stratocaster VII string from Timmy O'Flaherty.Lol.My effects are a Boss DD-8 digital delay, Boss Chorus, and a Dunlop baby wah that all runs through my Engle Powerball amp head on top of a Marshall 1960 lead series 4×12 Cabinet.

Influences: My faves on the guitar include Randy Rhodes of course, lol, David Gilmour, EVH, Paul Gilbert, Gary Moore, George Lynch, Joe Satriani, and Zakk Wylde.

My first gig: My first gig was in February 1997 at the Carl Casper's Custom Auto Show. It seems a lot of musicians cut their teeth at this venue. It was a Sunday and there were maybe 24 people in the crowd.Regardless, we still felt like Rock Stars.

Hobbies: Playing my guitars and writing music with my boys in Eflat is my main hobby. I also enjoy grilling, camping, going to sporting events and music festivals.

Favorite movies: I'm a horror movie freak, so my top two would have to be House Of 1000 Corpses and The Devil's Rejects.

Favorite food: My favorite food is Steak. So a nice tender, juicy 10 ounce fillet medium rare, baked potato, and some Gulf Coast shrimp is what's up.

Favorite place: My favorite place to visit is Florida.Give me a beach and some cool waves and I'm in heaven.

Favorite sports or team: Basketball is my favorite sport, especially when March rolls around, go Kentucky Wildcats.I'm also a Dallas Cowboys and Kansas City Chiefs fan.

What I'm listening to nowadays: That would have to be Chevelles latest album, Niratias. The recording, mix and mastering is epic. I can't listen to it enough

Coolest thing I've done: Playing in a band and having the opportunity to warm up for such national acts as Kid Rock, Stuck Mojo, ill Nino, Afroman, Hot Action Cop, Rehab, Finger Eleven, Killswitch Engage, Chevelle.b>.b>.nd so on

Most embarrassing moment: In elementary school, my first time in a play and on stage, I was the lead and forgot the words to Hello, Dolly!

Bad Habits: My worst habit is staying up to late and being a wanna be Rock Star.It can be hard on an old man.Lol

What was your first concert ever: My first concert was May 29th 1983, I saw Def Leppard, and Krokus at Louisville Gardens.

If you could meet a Rockstar (past or present), who would it be, and why: I would have to say Ozzy Osbourne in the early 80's, so I could watch him snort a line of ants off the concrete while on tour with Motley Crue.

Who do you love: I love my beautiful and loving wife Tracy, My daughters, Miranda and Morgan, my grandbaby Seriniti, and all my musician friends in EFLAT.#Lifeisgood.
