News From the Pit
Greetings all! I'm sooo sorry about the delays, but we've had embed issues to deal with on our website. It's been rough but hopefully it will work itself out. I can't not have my videos running! No upcoming national band live videos, No local videos, No me posting funny shit like foolio's falling ffstage soloing, or Danzig etting KO'ed? Hell naw! I'm losing my mind over here. Fuggettaboutit. I hope all of you are doing well out there in this humid AF soupy amplike weather. 've been doing pretty well myself, but I gotta come clean – now that this new shift at work that I am on has kicked into full break-neck production some time back, it has been kicking my freaking ass!
My work day is the equivalent of walking and throwing punches for 10 miles in summer heat. Or pushing a fridge down the highway for a mile or two. I ain't gonna lie, it's been a struggle these last few months, lemmie tell ya! But'm hangin' in there, tough! 've been so wore out and sore its not even funny. A ten-day vacation didn't even do shit! I'm still tired AF. Luckily a parts shortage this week has given me a –needed small reprieve. Thank the maker!
I've barely had the energy to go to the Drive In only two times so far this year! But after several months of this consistent physical workout, I am the strongest 've ever been. I straight up pity the fool who messes with me! If you were to punch me in my innards you are liable to break your hand! Ha. Unfortunately, being so ired lately has made me stay home all laid/hemmed up in bed. I'm afraid (which altogether isn't so bad), but I'm about to embark on some show adventures here real soon. It's ime once again. I'm just getting my second wind. So be a pal an' cut an old fella who has been workin' his tater-off some slack.
I'm happy to report that the scene is definitely improving, and things are getting a tad bit better. Some new venues, new bands, Fenders'Den Of Sin, Garland's Local Overload, Mark Jackson's stuff, festivals, the mighty LTL, national shows, metalfest, hell – things are looking up! I know it's nice to be playing music out again in full swing. I recently played a new enue and it was way cool (see Enchanted Forest Review below). You'll wanna read how I took an untested new guitar into battle. What a foolio! Oh, well, no one is perfect. We still rocked it! Good times with good friends, that's whats important.
Yeah, with all the horrible shit the world has been through these last two years, things in the scene are starting to look a bit more normal finally. It still sucks, but at least its a decent little start to better things.
Of course there is still a lingering darkside. No one knows this as I do. Rise above is all I can say. There will always be haters, politics, favoritism, cliques, holier than thous, vindictive fucks, backstabbers, egos and people of low moral fiber.
The music business has a lot of these types.
I say ‘Fuck those people' who pray that you fail. Vexxing these shittyass people is one of life's greatest pleasures.
I have become a Jedi Grand Master at dees.
Louder Than Life is coming up pretty soon, and you know I've covered every year so far, so 'll be looking forward to seeing all you rockers there once again! It's always been a joy of my life when I get to meet cool, new, wildass, funny people who have supported the stuff 've done over the years. So many good times! I'm not done yet.
I may have a few tricks up my sleeve yet.
zzVenues, Gatherings N' Such...
We got two unsigned local music festivals happening the same July 21-24 weekend! Metalfest and Magbar Musicfest. MAGBAR is having their first big shindig this month (see info below), with a shitload of kickass bands, that sounds like fun! METALFEST is this month as well, and I'm looking forward to performing with my band. It's always a redneck heavy metal good time with good folk. For an even greater cause! The battle against cancer.
I play that Friday night if you can make it out. I'm also playing on July 15 at the 21rst Amendment Tavern! It will be the first time there, with this band, anyways. Nice venue. And the sound system is pretty good too! That's another nice fully renovated venue that has been doing well recently. Good food too 'm also wanting to get out to the new Losers812 Bar in Indiana, and The Fox Den in Saint Matthews. Both of those guys (the new owners)don't mess around, so I'm sure it will be top notch. They've had a handful of shows there so far and I'm looking forward to attending/playing shows there someday soon. And the newly renovated Vernon Lanes? Interesting possibilities for sure! All of these. Who will jump on it? Who will act? Be bold! Start up an ongoing music showcase like I have. I booked showcases at The Toy Tiger and Phoenix Hill Tavern. Some pretty epic times forreal. It's a pain in the tater-hole, but also a lot of fun. Plus it makes people happy, and for a short time, forget their sometimes shitty lives, and that's always a good thing. Give it a go, you might even surprise yourself as I did.
Still no word on MG Primetime Cafe? What happened to that place? And I have heard grim rumors that another venue might be closing. I hope it's not true. I like this place and the people there. Quite a bit! We have lost a lot. Too damn much.
So there you have it, short and sweet, and the cold hard truth! Lots of motherf**kers don't like the truth. “Pshh” Isay.
Dare to be honest. Dare to be good. You will always get the truth from me.
There are new developments in my life that came forth just today, that could lead to major change. My heart is greatly affected.
I shall not delve into this subject just yet, o' faithful readers, for a time of deep deep thought is upon me.
Be well, all of you. For you are in my heart.
