Louisville Rock Closeup
Name: Connor Hill
Age: 24
Instrument: Vocalist / Piano.
Band/Former Bands: Johari.
How long on instrument: Vocalist: 15 Years / Piano: 19 Years.
Equipment: My voice! Typically for piano, I'll use whatever I'm given when playing live, but personally I have a wonderful grand Yamaha piano that I like to write with at my house.
Influences: For piano I draw a lot of influence from contemporary jazz, particularly Keith Jarrett. For metal music, however, I draw a lot of influence from predominantly European metal bands. such as Destiny Potato, Scar Symmetry, Sonata Arctica and Mercenary.
My first gig: I performed classically all throughout high school and college, however I wouldn't really call that a "gig." My first show with a rock band was actually with Johari on the second floor of the Irish Exit.
Hobbies: Video Games! Which is also my career! Outside of that, I normally like playing paintball, cooking, brewing beer, hiking and spending time with my wife.
Favorite movies: Anything Science Fiction. "Alien" is one of my all-time favorites.
Favorite food: Beer.
Favorite place: Beer?.
Favorite sports or team: I'll be honest. Outside of paintball ,I'm probably the furthest thing you could find on this earth from a sports fan. However, by default I'll just put down U of L here.
What I'm listening to nowadays: Within the Ruins, Destiny Potato, Polyphia, Intervals, The Earth Laid Bare, Monuments, and anything else I can find on Spotify.
Coolest thing I've done: Probably when I stage dove into a few hundred people at our CD release show. Nothing beats that feeling.
Most embarrassing moment: Well. FLAW's drummer Corey Sturgill has seen me naked. So I'm just gonna put that out there.
Bad Habits: Biting fingernails. It has actually gotten me sick on tour a few times. so that's probably my worst habit.
When/where did you first get some: I once met this hot girl called my left hand, used to take her out on dates to my basement all the time.
If you could meet a Rockstar (past or present), who would it be and why: ProbablyTony Kakko, the lead vocalist for Sonata Arctica. That band was a big influence on me growing up, and it would just be interesting to see what kind of guy he is in person. It's funny how much different people you idolize turn out to actually be in real life. for better or worse.
Who do you love: My wife. Forever and always.
