May was a notably busy month, particularly the first three days, i.e., Thurby, Oaks and Derby. It continued at a somewhat less frenetic pace, though it hasn't slowed down all that much, particularly on the touring musician concerts front, when any number of notable bands came through and as many upcoming shows were announced. Here are some of the non-concert hightlights:

Young Widows ' new album, Easy Pain, got reviewed though not always positively.

Louisville's Artifex Pereo has released a new video, "To Listen & Say Nothing," from their new album, Time in Place.

Marty Rosen reviewed the food at the newly redone Rudyard Kipling, which is under new ownership. He liked it a lot.

The gents at Never Nervous did a pair of stories on rapper Lamar Kendrick , a.k.a. Kogan Dumb.

Phillip Olympia at Never Nervous also interviewed rapper Jalin Roze.

Louisville hardcore outfit Greyhaven has a new full-length record coming out on June 17 via Little Heart Records (also a Louisville outfit).

Will Oldham and The Cairo Gang 's Emmett Kelly recorded a couple of tunes for The Spirit of Akasha, an Albert Falzon-directed documentary commemorating the 1971 classic Australian surf film, Morning of the Earth. Now they're releasing a seven-inch with a couple of them via Empty Cellar Records, under the moniker of Bonnie Prince Billy and The Cairo Gang.

The blogger at American Gloam who goes by the nom de plume brine has a short but packed piece about Louisville guitarist Andy Matter ( Health and Happiness Gospel Band, Opposable Thumbs, Furlong ) and his new recording, Pacific Midwest, on Gubbey Records .

There's a new video by Bonnie "Prince" Billy for "Bad Man," from his recent self-titled release. From Undertheradar.nz: "Filmed by Dutch director Claudia Crobatia, the simple yet strange video features an inset of Oldham playing to camera, while footage plays behind him of a dog wearing an unsettling mask and wandering the streets of Amsterdam." SonaBLAST! Records has announced the release of the soundtrack to the tennis movie "Second Serve," which features music by Kyle James Hauser, Leigh Ann Yost, THE PASS and Jamie Barnes. The soundtrack is available on iTunes.

The Deloreans have released a new 7-inch record, with "As Long As It's You" b/w "As Long As It's Here."

The Scorpions have confirmed that drummer James Kottak has returned to the U.S. following his month-long stint in a Dubai jail for insulting Islam and drinking alcohol without a license. For the complete story, go here.

Spanish Gold, which features My Morning Jacket's Patrick Hallahan, City and Colour's Dante Schwebel and Brownout's Adrian Quesada, has released a video for "Out On The Street" in advance of their new record, South of Nowhere, set for release on May 27 via Dine Alone.

Slint 's long-delayed time in the sun continued, with a story in the U.K.'s Guardian. Dave Simpson does the honors.

Raymer, Michael, 67, died in Louisville on May 10, 2014. He was a harmonica player who worked with a number of John Burgard's bands.

Tackett, Marlowe , 69, died in Tennessee on May 10, 2104. He was a country music singer from Eastern Kentucky.
