Down On The Corner

This is a somewhat shortened version of this month's column, as your humble editor is taking a long-overdue vacation. I should be back in the saddle by mid-October – at the latest.

Kevin Gibson has a very nice piece at InsiderLouisville on Michael L. Jones and how he came to write the book on Louisville Jug Band music, Louisville Jug Music: From Earl McDonald to the National Jubilee. The book will be for sale at the National Jug Band Jubilee tomorrow on the Waterfront.

My Morning Jacket contines to releases archival recordings of shows. The recording of the Paradisio, Amsterdam 2011 show, which was part of the Circuital World Tour tour has been released and is available at LiveDownloads.com

Andrew Rinehart, with help from Cheyenne Mize, have a new video, called "Doin' What We Have To Do." Watch:

K. Scott Richter ran the Slamdek label, with help from a revolving cast of Louisville musicians and wrote a book about it called Slamdek A-Z. Now there's an audio version, called Slamdek A To Z: Audio Companion To The Book, with tunes from many of the bands Slamdek released records for. Syd Bishop at Never Nervous, who was around during that time, as his take on the new compilation take; it's worth a read if you have any interest in Louisville music.

Storefront Congregation has had a very nice series of gigs on the American Queen Steamboat. Watch them perform "Caledonia":

Nicole Scherzinger has released the new video for her latest single, "On The Rocks." Watch:

Felker, Michael, 37, died on August 31, 2014 of a gunshot wound. He was a trumpet player.

Whatley, Leonard D, "Lenny," 74, died in Louisville on September 2014. He was a vocalist who sang with The Sultans and The Doo Wop Allstars.
