Down On The Corner
We're rolling into the hottest part of the summer, but the music doesn't stop. Here's some suggested events for your consideration:
The Kentucky State Fair has their more-or-less usual ultra-conservative lineup, mostly contemporary country plus boomer oldies and Christian music. Notables are: Reba McEntire and Parmalee, in Freedom Hall, August 18; The Newsboys and 7eventh Time Down in Cardinal Stadium, August 22; Chris Young with Chris Lane and Brett Eldredge in Freedom Hall, August 28;
Ray Lamontagne will stop by the Palace Theatre on August 2, in support of his lastest album, Ouroboros, with members of My Morning Jacket as his backing band, which is not too shabby. Lamontagne is familiar to Louisville music fans, so tickets should sell pretty well; best get yours while you still can. They run $59.50-$99.50.
It looks like your humble editor is going to have to miss the Lake Street Dive show at Iroquois Amphitheater on August 3, which will not make me happy. After catching them at the New Vintage on a very cold Monday night in February and being completely enchanted, every one of their appearances here since has conflicted with some other, unfortunately more important, item on my schedule. This time, a bit of medical stuff. In any case, they have a new CD, Side Pony, for your delectation. Tickets are $25-$30.
Lights! More Lights! Even More Lights! Yes, Umphrey's McGee likes their light show a whole lot, which is what you should expect from a jamband/prog rock/rock n roll/art rock band. They're also fairly sardonic, naming their album titles whimsically. (Their debut album was Greatest Hits Vol 111). Fans like them. They'll be at the Iroquois Amphitheater on August 6, when the music and the environment will be hot-hot-hot. Tickets run $27.50-$30.
The on-again, off-again Flaw has gotten together enough to record an album. The debut is at Diamond Pub on August 9.
Hey, boomers, Joe Walsh will be appearing at the Louisville Palace on August 14, with JD & The Straight Shot opening tickets are $45 adv.
The Seven Sense Festival happens on August 27. The lineup is :Dylan LeBlanc - Shreveport, LA; Low Cut Connie - Philadelphia, PA; Cedric Burnside - Holly Spring, MS; Patrick Sweany - Massillon, OH; Alanna Royale - Nashville, TN; Blair Alise & The Bombshells - Detroit, MI; Daddy Issues - Nashville, TN (Infinity Cat Recordings); The Mobros - Camden, SC; Faux Ferocious - Nashville, TN (Infinity Cat Recordings / Burger Records); Ruby The Rabbitfoot - Athens, GA (Normaltown Records / New West Records); Blackfoot Gypsies - Nashville, TN (Plowboy Records); Bohannons - Chattanooga, TN; The Mobros - Camden, SC; Grizzly Goat - Provo, UT; Violent Bear - Kansas City, MO; Frederick The Younger; Cut Family Foundation; Projector; Your News Vehicles; Tsunami Samurai; Johnny Berry; Joann + The Dakota; JK Mabry & The Maybes; New Bravado; Brenda; Vice Tricks; Ohlm; Moonlight Peddlers. Participating clubs are The New Vintage, Zanzabar, and Purrswaytions. There will be four stages outside. It's free, with some special arrangements for fans with cash.
WFPK's Waterfront Wednesday barely makes it into August Big Four Lawn, Waterfront Park, August 31. The lineup is Dr. Dundiff and Friends, The Bright Light Social Hour and Bonnie Bishop. It's free.
There's more music than this, of course, so head on out and find something interesting. It's easy to do here in the Derby City.
