Down On The Corner
It's nearly summer and the festivals are in full swing or, in the case of Abbey Road on the River, already done. It looks like it will be a hot summer of hot music of many varieties. The most recently added is the Bourbon & Beyond Festival, set for September 23 & 24 in Champions Park. It will be put on by the Danny Wimmer organization, which also puts on the Louder Than Life Festival at Champion Park, this year on September 30 and October 1.
Forecastle Festival, of course, come on July 14-16 in Waterfront Park. The counter-programmed Poorcastle Fest happens on July 7 at the Apocalypse Brew Works, 1612 Mellwood.
The Germantown Schnitzelburg Blues Festival is up soon, on June and 3, on 1101 E. Burnett Ave. The Louisville Blues, Brews & BBQ Festival is set for July 21 & 22 at the Water Tower.
Smaller festivals are worth a visit, too. On August 18, the Seven Sense Festival is staged on the grounds of Swill Hall, 719 Lynn Street.
The National Jug Band Jubilee will honk, pluck, thwack and twang away on September 16.
There are all manner of festivals on the Waterfront. Check the website at https://louisvillewaterfront.com/plan-your-visit/calendar/ listings by month.
This is just a quick list and omits – for lack of space and time – all the festivals that are not overtly musicial, but which have live music, which is pretty much the lot. Get out and enjoy some every weekend.
