Down On The Corner
As this is being written, the second Champions Park Festival to happen in two weeks, Louder Than Life, has kicked off. So far this year, I have not heard the music in my back yard, unlike prior years. The debut of Bourbon and Beyond Festival apparently drew some 50,000 fans – per the promoter – and was a success. I haven’t heard from anybody who lives on the north side of the hill as yet.
While the festivals in town do seem to be proliferating, I would note that festivals are one of the few ways musicians can a.) earn money and b.) draw new fans, since album sales make no cash and small venue shows likewise pay relatively little, at least in Louisville. Also, the City gets tax revenue from the various services that attendees from out of town use, which is money not out of your pocket. So, complain if you wish, but overall, festivals are good for Louisville. I bet you go to some of them, hey?
Meanwhile, your humble editor continues his ever-lengthening path to getting all back issues uploaded and in proper shape to be moved to a different server, a job that, frankly, I hadn’t realized I would have to spend so much time on.
Sigh. Sooner or later.
