Down On The Corner
It’s the end of 2017 and I, for one, am happy to see it gone, even though 2018 doesn’t seem to promise much improvement. I keep hearing strains of “Cabaret - Willkommen, Bienvenue, Welcome” in the background. Ah, well, I wish you all a Happy Holidays and a better New Year. Let’s just hope the music gets less ominous.
WFPK reports that Danish composer Bent Sørensen has won the University of Louisville’s 2018 Grawemeyer Award in Music Composition for his piece “Lisola della Città,” or “The Island in the City.”
“Written for Trio con Brio, and commissioned by the Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra and Trondheim Chamber Music Festival, the 25-minute work is for violin, cello and piano soloists and orchestra. It was premiered in 2016 by the trio and the Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra.”

Albrink, Nancy Helen Groetzinger, died in Louisville on October 30, 2017. She was the founder and artistic directory of the Academy of Music at St. Francis in the Fields, founding member of the Ceruti Chamber Players and a teaching assistant with Lee Luvisi at the University of Louisville, among other achievements.
