Down On The Corner

The live music scene has been hopping lately, at least for incoming touring bands. It has been less so for Louisville area bands, although that does not prevent new ones from springing up every day. It is still possible to get out and hear live music for less than your whole paycheck; we suggest you should, just to keep the music percolating.

Looking ahead for a few days, on Thursday, February 1, The Ark offers a tribute to Bob Marley at Headliners on February 1. Tickets are $20.

Eddy says he likes In This Moment on Saturday, February 3 at the Palace: “ Sweet! I saw this band a few times, but the last time at Louder Than Life in Sept was awesome! They were pretty damn good. And vocalist Maria Brink was sexy as hell, so yeah, I'll probably go check this one out. Should be pretty neat. They put on a theatrical show with lots o' props, costumes an stuff. The heavy downtuned extra chunky guitar riffs and the mixture of her sexy soulful and heavy voice makes for a really cool sound. Do yourself a favor and get those tickets!”

Veterans Blues Traveler ,  whose style covers a variety of genres, including blues rock, psychedelic rock, folk rock, soul and Southern rock and are best known among fans for their improvisational live shows will bring it to the Mercury Ballroom on February 6. Tickets are $38.

Terry Harper has Eyehategod, Stonecutters, Hawkbill and Blind Scryer at Trixie's on February 6. The tour has been rattled by changes, so we hope it'll be here as billed. Tickets are only $15.

The Infamous Stringdusters and Horseshoes and Hand Grenades make a stop at Headliners on February 7. The IS ease away from bluegrass enough to get tagged a jamgrass band by non-purists, which really means that they learned some music other than bluegrass. Their latest is Laws Of Gravity , released just last year. Tickets are $20.

Nine albums into a music career means that Corey Smith doesn't have to dig too deep for a variety of music at his shows. He's made Louisville and the Mercury Ballroom a regular stop for some time and, apparently, does pretty well by it. He'll be at the Mercury on February 9. Tickets are $22.

Rachael Yamagata and John Alagia will be at Headliners Music Hall on February 10. Tickets are $25.

Second generation bluegrassers The Travelin McCourys return to Headliners on February 16, on a rescheduled visit, with the Whiskey Bent Valley Boys opening. Del's boys will play bluegrass as they like it. Take a look at a full show from last year to see if you approve of their kind of BG. Tickets are $20.

Far Out Music in Jeffersonville, ended business on January 31, 2018. Far Out music was owned and operated by the late Kenny Deweese, who died in 2015, for over 40 years.

Leffler, Louis Michael “Lefty,” 62, died on January 30, 2018. Mike was a musician who played at the old Zena’s and Stevie Ray’s with Lefty and the Sneakers, Crawdad Pie and Higgs Bozon.
