On The Road Again, Just Can’t Wait To Get On The Road Again

Wednesday, April 25th, 2007

This just now confirmed; I will have an interview with the boys in Black Stone Cherry for the June 2007 issue of Louisville Music News. Of course the interview will also be available here on scuttlebutt once it’s released in the print version of LMN.

I’ll be heading down to Huntsville, AL to spend some time with the Edmonton, KY boys at their 09May2007 show with former tour-mates Buckcherry. Black Stone Cherry recently wrapped up a lengthy U.S., Canadian & European tour with Hinder and these young Kentucky lads are clicking on all cylinders on both the national and international music scenes. As they head back out to re-claim their road warrior status expect to catch them here in Louisville on 18AUG2007 at Broadbent Arena. Rumor has it that they will also have a Lexington date that is yet to be announced, so make sure you check into their website for all tour info updates.

Also remember to check back here for the May 2007 issue for the last press for 9Volt Revolt to be released sometime next week.

End Of Me Wasn’t The End For Bryan Fox

Monday, April 16th, 2007

I had heard that since the split of End Of Me, Bryan Fox had started writing more country than rock. When I first heard about this I couldn’t imagine it nor could I hear what it would sound like in my head. End of Me has always been the foundation of my musical opinion on Bryan Fox, of whom I admire. Recently he gave me a copy of his latest cut of country tracks, titled Be That Kind Of Man, produced by the talented Malcolm Springer. Springer, who has worked with national talents like Matchbox 20 and Collective Soul, is also known for his Louisville based projects such as Fox’s former band End Of Me, and Breckinridge.

The title track, Be That Kind Of Man has a real catchy melody & chorus which was always a trademark of End Of Me. Nonetheless, Fox’s ability to transpose his musical creativity into another musical style clearly demonstrates his veteran status as a musician, and a Louisville Musician at that.

Make sure you visit his website at www.bryanfoxrocks.com to stay up to date with his next performance. Fox also plays for 16 Bones, so visit www.myspace.com/sixteenbones for performance dates.

The Country Has Invaded My Stereo

Saturday, April 7th, 2007

I have been turning my attention to a lot more country here lately then I usually do. Actually, more or less country “rock.” Of course I am trying to listen to as much Kentucky based stuff as possible, but I have been tuning into the Outlaw Country channel on Sirius with some frequency as well. This just in: I just found out that I have Ryan Adams tickets for his next Louisville show.

The Kentucky Headhunters have quite a few kicking country-rock tracks on their new album, Flying Under The Radar. You can listen to “Big Boss Man” and “Louisiana CoCo” at the KHH website. Keep an eye open for tickets for their 2June2007 show at The Kentucky Center. I have spoken to a few of the guys in the Headhunters and plan to make a trip down to Edmonton to do some press on them and Black Stone Cherry. They are all some busy guys and should have loads of stuff to tell to their fellow Kentucky fans. I’ll have more on this later.

As for the The Bifida Bash at Molly Malones, the crowd came out large and it seemed to be a great success. There is definitely a justification for growth given the cause and I look forward to bringing more of a live music presence to some of their events. Read my previous blog from earlier in the week on The Spina Bifida Association and how Louisville musicians can get involved.

Guess I should go ahead and leave a quote since I haven’t left one in awhile. If music is the soundtrack to your life, then this fits the bill for me right now:

“You’ve got to know your limitations. I don’t know what your limitations are. I found out what mine were when I was twelve. I found out that there weren’t too many limitations, if I did it my way. “

Aiiradio.net hosts Greg Martin of The Kentucky Headhunters & Rufus Huff

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2007

Fender’s Den of Sin hosted a live performance of Rufus Huff featuring Greg Martin recently. Martin, a member of The Kentucky Headhunters rocked out for about an hour with side project Rufus Huff which musically was laden with rhythm and blues and a touch of funk, but definitely southern rock nonetheless. Martin also made it clear that The Kentucky Headhunters are still alive and well and will be playing out again soon.

Make sure you check out http://myspace.com/rufushuff and http://www.kentuckyheadhunters.com to hear their stuff and find out when you check them out live.
